When you actually need one

Marketplace orders come with their own invoice, so a separate packing slip is usually redundant there. It matters for the orders that do not: direct sales, wholesale dispatches, and B2B buyers who expect a document listing exactly what is in the box before they sign for it.

It is also useful for your own record when a buyer disputes what arrived - a slip packed with the goods is harder to argue with than a memory.

Packing slip versus invoice

They are different documents. An invoice records the sale and its tax - GSTIN, taxable value, the CGST/SGST or IGST split. A packing sliprecords contents: items, quantities, order reference, nothing financial.

Keep it to one page

A packing slip is a checklist someone reads while holding a box. Your shop name and contact, the order reference, every item with quantity, and a line on how to raise an issue. Anything more and the part that matters gets lost.
