Meesho Payment Cycle: When You Get Paid and Why It Differs
By Vanshika - ecommerce seller & educator, @chitraabyvanshika (100,000+ followers)
Meesho pays roughly 7 days after delivery, not after dispatch and not after the order is placed. That gap is the first thing new sellers get wrong.
The second is the amount. Your payout will never match your order value, and it is not supposed to - shipping, 18% GST on fees, reverse shipping on returns, TCS, TDS and any recoveries all come out first. This article explains every line, so you can tell a normal deduction from a mistake.
When the money actually moves
The sequence, in order:
- Order placed. Nothing is owed yet.
- You dispatch. Still nothing. Dispatch does not start the clock.
- Delivered. This starts the clock.
- About 7 days later, the settlement is credited to your bank account.
So the real gap between packing a parcel and seeing the money is dispatch time plus delivery time plus seven days - commonly two weeks or more from when you paid for the stock.
That is the cash flow reality nobody mentions. Your money is tied up in inventory and in transit far longer than the 7-day cycle suggests, and it is why sellers who scale too fast run out of working capital while showing a profit on paper.
A 7-day cycle is still the fastest among the big three. Amazon runs closer to 14.
Why your payout is smaller than your sales
Open Payments in your Supplier Panel, then the order-level breakdown. Every line below appears there.
| Line | What it is | Typical |
|---|---|---|
| Order value | What the customer paid | ₹350 |
| Shipping charge | Forward shipping, by weight and zone | -₹65 |
| GST on fees | 18% on Meesho's charges | -₹12 |
| Reverse shipping | Only on customer returns | -₹153 |
| Ads cost | Only if you ran campaigns | varies |
| Recoveries | Penalties, adjustments, claim reversals | varies |
| TCS | 0.5% of net taxable sales | -₹1.75 |
| TDS | Deducted at source under 194-O | small |
Two of those are not costs at all, and sellers routinely treat them as if they were.
TCS is your own tax, prepaid. At 0.5% of net sales, Meesho deposits it against your GSTIN. It appears in GSTR-2B and offsets your liability when you file. You get it back - if you claim it. Full detail in GST for ecommerce sellers.
TDS works the same way, deducted at source and credited against your income tax. Not a fee.
If you are GST registered, the 18% GST on Meesho's fees is also claimable as input tax credit. Sellers on an Enrolment ID absorb it - one of the real costs of staying unregistered.
The commission question
Meesho charges 0% commission on most categories, and its pricing page states this plainly. Your real per-order costs are shipping and the 18% GST on it.
You will find third-party articles claiming Meesho takes a commission or a platform fee. Where those conflict with Meesho's own pricing page and with what your settlement actually shows, believe your settlement. Every deduction is itemised in Meesho seller fees explained.
The 15-minute monthly reconciliation
This is the whole discipline, and almost nobody does it.
Once a month, compare three numbers:
- What your settlement report says you were paid
- What your own records say you sold
- What GSTR-2B shows as TCS credited against your GSTIN
They should agree. When they do not, the usual causes are:
- A return recorded in a different period than the original sale
- A penalty or recovery you had not noticed
- Meesho filed its GSTR-8 late, so your TCS credit has not appeared yet
- Ads cost deducted from a campaign you forgot was running
The point is not to catch Meesho out. It is to know your real numbers. Sellers who skip this end up with TCS credit sitting unused while they pay GST in cash, and penalties they never noticed.
When a payment looks missing
Before assuming something is wrong:
Check the order is delivered, not just shipped. The clock starts at delivery. This explains most "payment not received" cases.
Check whether it was returned or RTO'd. No delivery, no settlement.
Check upcoming payments, not just completed ones. It may be scheduled rather than missing.
Check recoveries. A payment can be reduced by a deduction rather than absent - a penalty, or a claim reversal on an order settled earlier.
Check your bank details in the panel are current. A failed transfer looks identical to a missing one from your side.
If none of those explain it, raise it through Support with the order ID. Do it promptly rather than at month end.
Managing the cash flow gap
The structural problem is not the 7 days. It is that you pay for stock now and get paid weeks later, and the faster you grow, the wider that gap opens.
Three things that help:
- Do not scale faster than your cash allows. Doubling orders doubles the money tied up in stock and transit before any of it returns.
- Keep a returns buffer. Roughly your return rate multiplied by what a return costs you, held back rather than reinvested.
- Reconcile monthly, so a problem surfaces while it is small.
FAQ
Meesho payment kab aata hai?
Delivery ke lagbhag 7 din baad payment aapke bank account mein aata hai - dispatch ke baad nahi, delivery ke baad. Order place hone se paisa aane tak aam taur par do hafte ya zyada lag jaate hain, isliye stock ka paisa utne din tak phansa rehta hai.
Why is my Meesho payment less than my order value?
Shipping, 18% GST on fees, reverse shipping on any returns, ads cost, recoveries, TCS and TDS are all deducted before the money reaches you. Open the order-level breakdown under Payments to see each line for a specific order.
What is the Meesho payment cycle?
About 7 days from delivery, not from dispatch. It is the fastest cycle among the major Indian marketplaces - Amazon is closer to 14 days.
Is TCS a fee Meesho charges me?
No. TCS is 0.5% of your net taxable sales, collected by Meesho and deposited against your GSTIN. It appears in GSTR-2B and offsets your own GST liability when you file. It is only a loss if you never claim it.
My Meesho payment has not arrived - what should I check?
Confirm the order is delivered rather than shipped, check it was not returned or RTO'd, look at upcoming payments as well as completed ones, check recoveries for a deduction, and verify your bank details in the panel. If none explain it, raise it with Support using the order ID.
How often should I check my settlement report?
Read one real order-level breakdown every month and reconcile it against your own records and GSTR-2B. Fifteen minutes monthly catches penalties, unclaimed TCS and pricing errors while they are still small.
Does Meesho charge commission on sales?
0% on most categories, per Meesho's own pricing page. Your real per-order costs are shipping and 18% GST on Meesho's fees. Where an article online says otherwise, check your own settlement.
