How Much Can You Really Earn on Meesho? (Honest Maths)

A realistic answer, worked out rather than claimed: on a ₹350 product at a 20% return rate, 100 delivered orders a month leaves roughly ₹3,400 in profit. Not ₹50,000. Not ₹1 lakh.

To reach ₹50,000 a month on those numbers you need roughly 1,500 orders, which means real inventory, real working capital and real hours. That is achievable and plenty of people do it. It is not achievable in month one, and nobody who tells you otherwise is showing you their settlement report.

Here is the arithmetic, so you can run it on your own product instead of trusting anyone's screenshot.

Start with one order

Take a kurti selling at ₹350 that costs you ₹180:

LineAmount
Selling price₹350
Shipping charge-₹65
GST on fees (18%)-₹12
Settlement credited₹273
Product cost-₹180
Packaging-₹10
Profit per delivered order₹83

₹83 on ₹350 is a 24% margin. Healthy, and this is the number most sellers stop at.

It is also fiction, because not every order gets delivered.

Now add returns

Returns are the single largest thing separating your imagined income from your actual one.

A customer return on Meesho costs roughly ₹153 in reverse shipping on a sub-500g parcel. That figure comes from the rate card inside the Supplier Panel, and it is far above the ₹30-80 most articles quote - the full breakdown is in Meesho return charges and RTO.

Across 100 orders at a 20% return rate:

LineAmount
80 delivered orders × ₹83+₹6,640
20 customer returns × ₹153 reverse shipping-₹3,060
Packaging burnt on those 20-₹200
Profit on 100 orders₹3,380

Your profit per order just fell from ₹83 to about ₹34.

Nothing went wrong. No mistake was made. That is simply what a normal return rate does to a normal product, and it is the number almost nobody publishes.

What that means at different volumes

Same product, same 20% return rate:

Orders / monthMonthly profit
100~₹3,400
300~₹10,000
500~₹17,000
1,000~₹34,000
1,500~₹50,000

Two things to sit with.

₹50,000 a month means about 50 orders a day, packed, labelled and handed over, every day. That is a job, not a side income, and it needs someone doing it consistently.

It also needs stock. At 1,500 orders you are holding meaningful inventory and your money is tied up in it constantly. Profit on paper is not cash in hand when most of it is sitting in polybags.

The three levers that actually move the number

Volume is the obvious one and the slowest. These three change the shape of the business.

1. Return rate

Look at what happens to the same product at different return rates:

Return rateProfit per 100 orders
10%~₹5,900
20%~₹3,400
30%~₹900

Ten points of return rate is worth more than doubling your order volume.

That is why accurate size charts, honest photos and complete descriptions are not presentation work - they are the highest-return work available to you.

2. Price point

Meesho's costs are largely flat. A ₹65 shipping charge is 21% of a ₹300 product and 7% of a ₹900 one.

Move the same margin structure up the price ladder and each order carries more. The trade-off is real: Meesho buyers resist higher prices, so conversion drops. Somewhere between ₹400 and ₹700 is usually where the two forces balance, but that is a per-product question, not a rule.

3. Product cost

Every rupee you cut from sourcing is a rupee of profit, on every single order, forever. Negotiating your cost from ₹180 to ₹160 adds ₹20 per delivered order - worth more than most pricing tweaks and it compounds with volume.

This is why the sourcing work matters more than the listing work once you are past the first month.

Why the income screenshots are misleading

You will see plenty of them. Two things are usually true.

They show sales, not profit. A dashboard reading ₹4,53,148 in total sales is a real number and tells you almost nothing. After product cost, shipping, GST, returns and packaging, what remains might be 8-12% of it.

They show the good month. Nobody screenshots the month a listing got suppressed or returns spiked.

Neither is necessarily dishonest. But sales is not income, and the gap between them is where most new sellers' expectations break.

What is actually realistic

From the shape of accounts we see:

Month 1-2: likely a loss, or close to zero. You are learning, your listings are new, and new catalogs take two to four weeks to gain any visibility. Getting your first orders at all is the win.

Month 3-6: ₹3,000-15,000 a month is a reasonable band if you have kept listing consistently and fixed your top return reason. Many people quit before this point.

Month 6-12: ₹15,000-50,000 becomes possible with proven products, controlled returns and enough capital to hold stock.

Beyond that depends far more on sourcing and capital than on anything Meesho does.

These are not promises. Your category, price point, competition and season all move the numbers, and two sellers on identical effort can land in completely different places.

Run your own numbers

Everything above is one product at one return rate. Yours will differ.

The free Meesho profit calculator takes your actual selling price, cost, weight and return rate and gives you profit per order and per month. Put in the return rate your panel shows, not the one you would like.

If the product only works at an optimistic return rate, it is not a product yet. That single test would save most new sellers their first three months.

Price it backwards instead

Everything above starts from a price and works out the profit. It is usually better to run it the other way: decide the profit you need per order and let the Meesho price calculator tell you what to list at, after fees and a realistic return buffer.

FAQ

Meesho se kitna kama sakte hai?

Ek ₹350 wale product par, 20% return rate ke saath, 100 delivered orders mahine ke lagbhag ₹3,400 dete hain. ₹50,000 tak pahunchne ke liye roughly 1,500 order chahiye - matlab din ke 50 order pack karne padenge, aur uske liye stock aur capital dono chahiye. Pehle mahine mein yeh mumkin nahi hai.

Is selling on Meesho profitable?

Yes, for sellers who calculate before they list. The 0% commission structure is genuinely the most beginner-friendly among Indian marketplaces. But profit lives in the gap between your price and the full cost stack including returns, and that gap is smaller than most people assume.

How much do I need to invest to start?

₹3,000-5,000 of inventory is enough for a first test. Registration and listing cost nothing. What limits you later is working capital, because scaling means holding more stock for longer.

Why is my Meesho profit less than I calculated?

Almost always returns. Most sellers calculate profit on a delivered order and forget that one in five comes back, carrying roughly ₹153 in reverse shipping and no revenue. Check your real return rate in the panel and recalculate.

How long before I earn something meaningful?

Realistically three to six months of consistent work before you see a steady few thousand a month, and six to twelve before ₹15,000-50,000 becomes plausible. New catalogs take two to four weeks just to gain visibility.

Can I earn ₹1 lakh a month on Meesho?

It is possible and people do it, but on the numbers above it means roughly 3,000 orders a month - a full operation with staff, stock and systems, not a side income. Anyone promising it in your first months is selling you something.
